Don't Build the Ground Zero Mosque

There is probably no issue which better highlights the huge chasm between the elitist political leadership of our state and nation on one side, and the average American on the other, than the Ground Zero Mosque debate. Indeed, many union members have expressed their refusal to work on this project.

There is no question that mainstream Muslims are peaceful, or that they have a right to pray as they see fit. However, placing a mosque on the Ground Zero site is an intentional provocation by extremist muslems whose goal is not to provide a place of prayer, but rather to commemorate what they believe, in a truly warped way, to be a "victory" over America. Building it is a blatant insult to all the victims of the 9/11 attack, to all Americans, and, in fact, to all muslims who have been terrorized or killed by the radical islamofacists, such as those who want to build this mosque.

The political leadership on the city, state and federal levels appear to care little for the sensitivities of the average American, and they fail to acknowledge the reality of the threat facing our nation.

Why has a small Greek Orthodox Church that was directly across from the Ground Zero site before the 9/11 attacks been given the bureacratic run around in its attempts to rebuild, at the same time that this controversial mosque has attracted powerful political supporters? Could it be that it does not have the advantage of mysterious imams who disappear in the middle east, in the presence of hyper-wealthy backers?
